Please Don't Vote!

Although our citizens have the right to vote, it doesn’t always mean that they should vote.  The country would probably be better off if the uninformed didn't vote.  Better yet, perhaps only those who pay taxes should be allowed to vote.  After all, if a voter has no skin in the game, why should he have a vote?  It is ironic that a citizen can vote for programs and politicians that raise taxes when he, himself pays no taxes.   For more on taxes, please see my Taxes page.

With the right to vote comes the responsibility to know who to vote for. Casting a vote is not an eeny-meeny-miny-moe decision as it appeared to be when voters in the 2010 Oklahoma democratic primary selected Jim Rogers over Mark Myles to run against republican incumbent Sen. Tom Coburn.

In the July 2010  primary elections, it seems that democrats overwhelmingly elected Rogers, a 75-year old retired teacher who refuses to say where he taught or where he stands on any issues, over his opponent Mark Myles simply because more voters recognized the name Rogers.

It is appalling to think that Rogers, a man that did not campaign, has no formal platform, and refused to address questions regarding his experience, won the democratic primary with 65 percent of the vote over an articulate, educated professional like Myles. Unfortunately, this event shows how ignorant most of today’s voters are, and how their voting “guesses”, not decisions, have lead to incompetent, sometimes dishonest, elected officials, higher taxes and repressive laws.  I hope that the 157,000 people who voted for Rogers, a candidate that they know absolutely nothing about, will stay home in future elections and leave the decisions to those of us who take the responsibility of voting seriously.
