Racism:

Is Barack Obama black?

The Wikipedia Encyclopedia says that Obama is "the first African American to hold the office".  Like the encyclopedia, most people would probably call him black (or African American).  However he is also white.  Born from a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas he is as much white as black.  So why have we labeled him "black"?  Perhaps, because we are all racists.

The blacks want Obama to be black, so that they have a role model.  And the whites, they need him to be black so that they can show how racially progressive they are by voting for and supporting him.  However, there are some people who just want him to be a good president and don't notice his color.

As long as we keep talking about racism, it won't go away, we won't let it. Case in point, former President Carter suggested that congressman Joe Wilson's outburst during Obama's speech to congress was "...based on racism".  Could it be that Wilson's outburst, "you lie!" was solely based on the fact that Wilson thought that Obama was lying.  After all, have you ever known a politician who doesn't lie?  Carter went on to say, “There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president.”

There were those who thought a peanut farmer from Georgia should not be president as well.  Anti-peanuts no doubt, or people who prefer men without peanuts.

We will see and end of racism when we start to hear less about it.  When the talking heads on TV and our politicians stop suggesting that everything, good and bad, is based on some sort of racism.  Some things after all, are based on nothing more than fact.
